Evaluation of Zinfandel Heritage Selections

Principle Investigators:James Wolpert
AVF Project #:290
Fiscal Year Funded:2004

The objective of these evaluations is to identify selections among the Zinfandel Heritage
Collection that will improve the quality of Zinfandel wines. Selections were made from a
wide geographic area of the state; thereby increasing the possibility of finding selections
that distinguish themselves. Viticultural and enological evaluations for the selections
began in 1998 and have continued annually through 2004. Data from 2004 will not be
generated since all of the vines suffered from symptoms similar to potassium deficiency
which confounded all of the experimental variables of interest.
