Capillary Electrophoresis/Mass Spectrometer Retrofit
The American Vineyard Foundation provided the Department of Viticulture and Enology $35,600 towards upgrading one of our Agilent Capillary Electrophoresis Systems and interfacing this instrument with our Agilent 1946A Mass Spectrometric Detector (currently serving and Agilent Liquid Chromatograph). Additional matching funds totaling $7100 were provided by Dr. Ebler, the equipment budget, and the Chair.
We received the parts and materials from Agilent on January 21 of this year. Agilent requested that we delay installation until March as they had another system scheduled for installation at that time. Installation of the system actually began on April 12 and was only completed on June 15 due to technical difficulties that necessitated three service visits from Agilent’s Seattle based CE/MS specialist. System performance was verified on the June 15, 2004 using the test sample provided.
This new configuration now allows us to do Capillary Electrophoresis(CE), a combinationof CE and Mass Spectrometry(MS), Liquid Chromatography(LC), or a combination of LC/MS.
